I'm looking for some new tires for my truck. i'd like to go a little bigger than stock. My truck came with 265's and I'd like to go with either a 285/75/16 or a 305/70/16. I know they are the same height but the 305 is wider. I need some opinions on what tire to get. I'm looking at Nittos, Toyos, BFG's, and ProComps. I might go to Michileins if I buy a 285, I loved how the stock LTXs wore plaus I don't go off road too much, mainly highway driving. Anyone have a favorite tire that wears decent? I know going bigger will drop my mileage in town but i've been told on the highway with my 4.10s it'll pick up a little. I'd like to see a couple pics of 305's on a 2nd gen if possible. Thanks!

If your running stock rims i wouldnt go any bigger than a 285. Im running 315s on 16x8 and theres wayyy too much sidewall. I'm also running a 2' coil spacer and the tires still rub and the axle doesnt look centered in the wheelwell either. I think my truck handles like dog sh!t with the big tires. I'll be going back to 285s as soon as these wear out... its a 6 speed with 3.55's if thats any help.

Here's a couple of mine, first one is with 285's, next two are 305's (don't have very good pics anymore with those tires). 315's on the third one and 325/60/20's on the last one. The other wheels were 16x8's.

Definitely love BFG tires. A/T's and M/T's, I've run em both on my old Ford. Had the coopers on the Dodge, liked them as well, got good mileage out of em. 305's and the 325's are nittos and they have been a decent A/T, nothing special and mileage isn't anything to brag about. The Pro Comp Xterrains (315's) absolutely SUCKED.

Ive got Pro-Comp Extreme A/Ts and they have been great...they have a 40,000 mile tread warranty from pro comp....or if ya wanna spend the money...Mickey Thompson Baja Radial ATZ....Roachie runs those and he has about 60,000 miles and alot of burnouts on them....either one is a great tire from my experience

I am running the 16x8 stock alloys on my truck and I have been told not to go any bigger than a 305 on them. I am leaning to the 285's because it seems like more come in a load range E than 305s do. I haul heavy sometimes and I don't want to use an under rated tire on my truck.

I have a few friends that ran procomp at's, mickey atz's, and bfg at's. I like the BFG's but I am also able to get a very nice discount on the ProComps, Mickeys, and Nittos through a friend. My firends that ran the Procomps and Mickeys got good mileage out of them, all were on 3/4 trucks.

The 285's will drive better and probably be better for towing but the 305's will look better.

I agree with 01smoker...they deffinately wont be as bad the 315s i had on my stock 17in rims....looked good...but drove like crap

I think my 285's looked good without flares.. But after the flares, they just weren't an option.

I have two 2001s and one one I have a 2inch coil spacer with Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 315 on a 16 inch Mickey Thompson rim... Other truck is 325 Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ on a Helo 18 inch rim... love em both and i hate stock rims...

I have 285 nitto terra grapplers and i love them so far they ride great and are quiet on the road..do fine pullin 2..haven't tried them in any mud but they look like they would clean out pretty good
