Recently I had developed a clunk in my front end on my 98 and had it diagnosed as worn Upper Control Arm Bushings.Since I was using the Solid Steel Lower Arms I contacted my SS Dealer to see if they had plans on releasing their Upper Arms soon and to my dismay no news has been heard about them.

That led me to a search for a new set of arms as I did not want to replace the bushings with stock rubber bushings and I didn't care for the Energy Suspension designed bushing. After a long search and many emails and calls I decided to post here on Comp D about control arms and in stepped Comp D member "DieselDork".After some PMing and sending emails back and forth along with a few phone calls to him I decided to place my order with him for the new arms.

I ordered a set of his arms which use Ballistic Joints in place of rubber or poly bushings and had him do the double tube on the lowers for strength and looks. They were made 1/2 inch longer to accommodate my 2inch over D25 springs so it would recenter the front axle. After he had them made they then went to his powder coaters for a Bright Red finish and he then boxed them and shipped them to me for my install.

To do the install I had already ordered a new set of control arms bolts, nuts and new eccentrics because I had feared the uppers were seized in the bushing.Once we began the install we found that to be true and the upper control arm bolts had to cut to be removed and the lowers came right out.The install was very simple once we had the pesky seized upper arms out.The eccentrics were placed back where they were and all the new bolts were torqued to factory specs. To ensure that nothing had gotten out of whack I had the truck aligned and it was found the way that S&S Spring had set it last year for me when it was done by them.

What you see in the photos are the way he shipped them to me with each arm individually wrapped and protected with zero shipping damage. Mitchell took good care to ensure no damage happened while in transit. The finished product can bee seen installed on my truck in the other photos. To say I happy with his work and the product I paid for is an understatement. My truck drives some much better I can not relate in words the difference. It handles on the road better than when it was new and steers much nicer.

Thank You Mitchell for a great product and great service!.Its nice to know people like you enjoy working with your customers with your products and going that extra mile to help them..........Andy

we all know that your truck doesnt see dirt!

One may never know what I may do if I ever get the darn truck tuned and making the power it should.I have had for a couple years where you been?.Picaso uses it every year at The Carlisle truck show to hold his Strawberry Coolada......LOL.....Andy

P.S.-See me at the Spring Show Josh,I would like to chat about that spare bullet laying collecting dust in Lloyd's shop.

Those look real good Andy. Good post! I would like to hear more info on these.

1) can they be made in any length?

2)idea of cost?

3)any noise from them?

Andy, your springs are dirty

Thank You!!!...A winter of daily driving and chemical salt does that...LOL.

RD...
1-I would imagine they could be built to what you need if you call him.I decided against the 1" longer arms as We felt after our chat that they were not needed.1/2" re-centered the front axle and allows me to run a 315/75R16 tire on a standard dish wheel without it rubbing on my inner fenders.

2-Cost if you went to a different size than what I have would have to done between the buyer and Mitchell. The cost for mine was in line with every other set thats available out there.

3-Noises??...Not at all from the joints. The only thing I can say is you do feel the road a tad more than with a rubber or poly bushing.Once you drive the truck and see the difference you will notice its not an issue and they work very well. Before the install I had began to notice mine was hitting road bumps very hard and was being thrown around in the lane.Upon changing the arms and allowing the front suspension to articulate again that has ceased and it drives over top of any road bump without and issue.

looking forward to spring fling, my truck is going to the MAD garage here real soon for a few little upgrades and i think i may try to tune it a bit more.

About time somebody builds quality arms. My Skyjackers are getting worn out & I'll be replacing them this summer. Thanks for the info.

Hmmm....Dieseldork have you ever thought about makin some trac/ladder bars??

Those control arms look good!

He has and their VERY nice but they're very detailed and probably too expensive for most people. But I'm sure he'd be glad to make more or at least post some pics.

Thanks John ,I do admit I am very anal and detailed about the things I build which does make my stuff kinda expensive at times ( most of the time lol )

Do you still use custom machined Balistic joint or now summit joints ?:pop:

I have stuck with Ballistic because I still feel they are the best joint out there . And besides if you ever go to Ballistics web sight they have so much to offer . If you have ever seen their Forged Chromolly 2.63" Ballistic Joint it's a monster I use them on my traction bars .
