Ok so im putting a new truck together. Going through the motor now and putting new seals and stuff in so im not leaking oil or anything like that. My question is should I do a cam while the motor is out? The truck isnt gonna be anything wild (atleast not planning on it). I have another that is gonna be my built pulling truck. This will be driven and used to tow the puller. Still want to make good power with it to have fun with. Just wanted everyones thought on if you think I should stick one in it or not? What range do you really need a can or will you really benefit from one? I would like to eventually put twins on the truck as well if that matters.

Absolutely, a cam is definately worth the swap especially if you are already tearing it down to that point replacing other parts.

Most definitely do the cam. The cam and the tranny are two of the best mods you could do to one of these trucks.

Well its a manual so tranny doesnt need any work. Have a southbend in the shop ready to go in it. What cam would you guys recomend? Not looking to spend a ton. WOuld love to find a good used one.

Any idea on the price? They are regrinds correct? Is that what you run? Anyone else have experience with this cam or other recomendations?

bill fletcher at diesel power products has some very innovative cams. not one size fits all. he will make a cam specific to your goals with the truck and to fit your build. i've delt with a lot of his cams. every one i've installed or ordered i have gotten awesome reviews back. how big of twins are you thinking of going with? mild street/towing? or bigger?

Pm Greg on here look him up under Comp461 he will work with you on a cam and have it made to what your needs are. He doesnt do a one fits all drop in cam. Plus his prices are better then what i could find else where when i purchased mine.

Twins will probably just be a fairly mild set. something streetable. Can you guys give me or PM me prices on the cams your talking about?

You can get billets as well. I have one behind my front door right now.

I think they only do regrinds on the VP cams, due to the LSA of those cams are closest to their specs. I am sure I will be corrected if wrong.

I had a re-grind go bad after 10,000 mi....I would not reccomend them.

I would do it and my vote goes to Fletcher too

Regrinds are fine for low budget racers, but if you are wanting the least chance for failure, new is the best way to go. On that regrind that went bad, was it a CR cam?

Also, you are right in mentioning that Vp cams are the best. The truth is that a lot of people regrind CR cams and say that they are VP cams. Most people, don't know the difference and then they get shafted. When going with a shop that uses regrinds, know what you are gettting before you have to pull it apart to fix it. Or go with a new cam to reduce your chances of failure

Best all around street cam I have seen is the Scheid Street puller cam. We even ran it in a super street truck and the truck screamed. No need to cut pistons or anything.

If you call Fletcher make sure to have a pad & pen handy or record the phone call....talk about SEVERE INFO OVERLOAD! LOL

If you were to measure that lobe is the face of it flat or sloped? Looks like it would be sloped since the wear is heaviest on one side and fades away going to the other...?

My regrind was only in my truck for 2k-5k miles (not really sure) before the engine came out and it looked just like it did when I installed it.

My reciept after the rebuild for long engine/camshaft life is 15w-50 Mystic synthetic oil, Lucas Oil engine break in lube with ZDDP and 1.25" diameter 24v tappets. I am hoping it keeps any wear minimal.

Whats everyones opinion of Haisleys street cam? I can get a pretty good deal on a slightly used one that fits my budget
