Anybody ever dealt with a loose toner ring on the crank. I have a late 2000 that has had 2 crank sensors put in it lately and now wont start. Its got a code for crank position, the tachometer doesn't work and I put a brand new crank sensor in it.. I ohmed the wires from the ecm to the plug and they are good. The old sensor is chewed up making me believe the toner ring is bad or loose

I know someone that had the tone ring come off at idle, it left a dent in the oil pan. Sounds like you may want to pull the pan and check it.

i have a buddy with a 2000 that wouldnt run right, that he bought for cheap. it had been missed diagnosed as a bad injection pump. the previous owner dumped a bunch of money into the truck and still couldnt get the truck to run right, ended up the tone ring was missing teeth.

Well this truck was misdiagnosed as an injection pump too. I'm sure it has to be a toner ring since I've checked everything else

i wanna say he used a bore scope to look at the tone ring before he tore it down. he was also pretty sure his was the tone ring.

Well found the problem that's only half the pieces

Can you see the ring if you take out the crank sensor? Possibly try to move it with a long screw driver?

I have a new one from cummins coming. I've got the pan off now hopefully the bolts aren't sheered off

Well it dinged up the bottom of number 5 and 6 piston pretty good but the cylinders look good. He had scheid change the crank sensor about a 6 months ago. They said it was hard to get out but I wish they would have said something about it being beat up because Im sure the crank sensor was beat up and I would have pulled the pan off and tried to fix it before it came apart. I got it back together with a new toner ring and new bolts and put red loctite on them. It runs like a champ now so hopefully its good to go now.
