Ive got an older DTT buildup with the single disc converter. Maybe about a year after I had it done the shifts lost their firmness. Awhile back it started dropping out of lockup at random when I was on the highway. Now recently its
doing this awful shuddering when I put my foot in it ~50mph. Pretty sure its the converter thats screwed up.
could something else have cooked it? Like low apply pressures allowing the clutches to slip? Might be worth just opening the trans up and installing a master rebuild. depends on whats in the pan I guess.
So I figure maybe I should swap it out for a triple disc this time. Or maybe get it rebuilt.. dunno. Need something that will support 650hp, some towing and some minor hooliganism ;p

Definitely the lockup clutches in the converter shuttering, I went through 3 of those single Disc DTT's before I went to a triple disc.

If you don't feel it slip and the fluid is still clean I would put a triple disc converter in it and roll with it, also assuming you have a billet input shaft, as a triple disc on a stock input shaft has a tendency to cost you a lot of money down the road.

I did a billet input, stock intermediate and output. Not planning on putting any serious power through this trans.
I havent felt it slip but its sure got me worried. Any debris from the friction or the steel cover could be floating around in there.
I got a quote for 1600 for a triple with lifetime warranty, sound good?

Thats a couple hundred high id say.

IMO depending on what the fluid looks like id just pull it apart and check the clutch packs while you have it out.

Good info, Ill ask the shop about it.. maybe theres a reason its more expensive that Im not aware of.

If thats the installed price it's not out of line. Otherwise like the other guy said it's high.

Hey Bruce Block aka B&B tooling has barely used Suncoast triple disc for alot less money.

No core and you can sell that single of yours for a couple hundred to someone that can rebuild it.

PM me if you want his number.

Looking for a lifetime warranty on one, dont mind paying a bit more for that since Ive already blown one up.
I have to wonder though, at only 420hp or so, how did I cook this converter? Maybe the apply pressure is low due to excessive leakage somewhere?
I have the TPS adjusted down a little so the truck shifts a little early. Im guessing higher loads at lower RPM is a part of it.

Anyone run a mystery switch on one of these triples? Will they hold up to a fair amount of torque.. say if I force lockup in 2nd and up? Id imagine thats pretty harsh on something else in there when it shifts.

Diesel performance converters have a lifetime warranty them. I've been very pleased with mine

You can also call FTI Converters I've ran one of years and no issues!

Loosening the TV cable and short shifting the transmission is why the shift points don't feel as crisp anymore, your line pressure increases with rpm and the sooner it shifts the softer it will feel, get your TV cable set to where its just tight at wide open throttle. Your clutches will thank you.

Ive run the same setup (whatever the shop recommended at the time) since it was installed like 70k ago. I agree thats probably part of the problem. Lower RPM, lower pressures and lower clutch force.
Im looking at a low stall converter since this is my DD truck. That would be more efficient but the RPM and pressures would be lower. Am I going to cook another one like this?
Mileage has been awful for about a year or so. Gotta do something.
