My torque converter went out on me last week, got a new one put it in and it won't completely unlock, it will kill the engine when I put into drive or reverse. I've pulled the trans apart inspected everything and it's all good tore the valve body apart cleaned and inspected it's all good replaced the lockup solenoid, bypassed the coolers and still the same. I thought it was a bad torque converter got another one and no change.

Am I missing something? Anybody have any ideas on what else to check?

Sounds like you need to check valve body harness. TCC wire shorted to ground?

Wires on the outside look good, I replaced the TC and overdrive solenoids on the valve body witch come with a new harness, I unplugged everything going into the trans which put it into limp mode but it still staying partially locked.

Who's converter and what fluid are you running? Does it get better when warm?

DPC converter and Amsoil, no change when it's warm.

What stall? And can you idle it up to keep it going?
Mine does the same thing.. And i was told stall is too tight...
Of course i don't have aa tach to tell.

Sorry, iguess what's the number? 3000 its stock, 3150 is lower by 150 a 3300 is 300rpm lower etc...

I missed your edit, stock stall is about 2200 mine is at 1800, and the converter is staying locked at least partially, what it feels like is letting the clutch out fast on a manual trans when I put into drive or reverse, but it still locks up and unlocks at normal speeds, that's why I'm thinking it's not unlocking all the way.

I have a 3150 dpc triple. (150 rpm lower than stock i was told) and about 50% of the time it will stall going into gear.
I was told because stall is too low it does this.. But couple that with my vp and large injectors it compounds the problem...
apparently it its trying to move all that fluid in the converter instantly and it just stalls... I found i can give it gas when going into gear and it helps but depending on how it runs this weekend i may go higher...

If all this is true your stall may be too low.. Or idle is...

Stall is no different than what I've had for the last 2 years, I'd get whiplash if I give it any more fuel putting it into gear.

Mine has a low stall converter on a 47RH. Its always jumped a bit when put into gear.
Wont stall the engine however.
If you raise the idle enough to get 800rpm in drive, what is your rpm in park?

Switch valve.... Hmm i have to go through my book to see where it is and see if this will help my car too...

Its the front valve with the exposed spring on the left front or ds of the valve body. They have a history of binding and springs failing.
