I've pulled my truck a bunch lately, well it does not seem to be working the motor very hard, it will leave the gate great, but i stop about 50 ft before most trucks.
I usually fall somewhere around 5th in street diesel class. its in 3rd/low side
I have tried locking the torque converter and its a bit much.

Should i try a different converter?
Or maybe raise timing? So i can lock the torque converter. in this case i need head studs?
also i might be selling the tires that are on it.
any other ideas would be sweet to

I tried that to and it still pulled the motor down a decent amount was better off staying in 3rd w/o lock up

you didnt say what gears or tires you have but you will need at least 550-600HP to run third lock up.

3:73 gears?

If so, 2nd gear, 4 low , TC locked should be about perfect. It shouldnt pull the motor down too much. I run 2nd gear locked with a stock charger at around 350hp with 3:55's.

How much is it dragging the RPM down? It is going to pull the motor down when it locks for sure, but it should pull it just fine.

If you cant lock the converter, then get a tight converter, but it will always pull the best with the converter locked.

Yes they are 3.73 the tires are dyna pro's 285/75?/17 there is a pic of them up top. I'm not sure ill just have to wait until next season. I still wanna raise my timing up from 17

i would go ahead and get studs and raise the timing up to 22deg it will help it run better up top and you need alot more fuel also dont think those injectors are giving you as much fuel as you need for that 64. Take a look at the green and silver truck at grinnell it needs more fuel.

My plans were to get my hands on a set of 5x.016 sense i was reading they support 600+ horse.

Also on the list head studs but i was reading something how you have to tap the threads more or something...can you do that with the motor in the truck? Where are the metal shavings going to go....

Is ther a thread on these head studs that has some info?

Yes, it is best to bottom tap the holes, but this is a very simple process.

All you do is get a 12mm BOTTOM tap which has threads the full width all the way down. Then run them in and out of each stud hole until you feel it hit the bottom. Then take a magent and stick a nail on it(or something similar) and get all the shavings out of the bottom of the hole. This just ensures that your studs all go all the way to the bottom of the hole that way they are holding on to more threads, and they are all the same height this way. Easily done with the motor in the truck.
