I've seen in a few posts on diferent boards that there is a wire you can cut to get rid of the Tq managment. I have an extra switch to runt through it and I'm headed to the track tonight. Can someone please help me so I can run decent tonight:bang

its an ecm fuction accrding to wheel speed..dont know how you could do that by cutting a wire but if you here it lemme know....im on that like abum on a bologny sammich

just put a bd rad box in it will make your check engine light come on every time you use it and your speedo wont work while the box is on everything will go back when you turn it off. Its about 83 bucks from them its where i got mine

I've been planning on one for a few years but never got around to it. I sold my smarty so now I have the ned for it. I cant have one here by tonight though.

i've personally never heard about a wire that could be cut. We have four local trucks that all run the BD RAD so If you find out let me know and we'll have a lot of them for sale.

Might take care of the top speed limiter, but don't see that helping with torque management.

then how does the ecm calculate torque management if there is no wheel speed detected if in fact thats how the torque management is calculated.

I think the ECM looks at wheel speed. If your at zero speed, then it limits the torque. I think the BD rad box simulates 55mph or something like that.
On the 3rd gens I think it looks more at input and output speeds of the tranny. On the second gen I think it limits engine RPM if your at zero MPH. I mean if you think about it, why would you need 2500 rpm if your at zero speed.

IIRC tq man. is in effect until 2nd gear.....i have a BD-RAD but it's only ever been turned on a few times

iirc???

torq man is in first gear i believe. once it makes econd youve got plenty of wheel speed to disable it. doin a burnout you have no ground speed no matter what gear yer in and the torque man will not let the truk rev out...

Nope it's first and second. My truck will easily power through it to do a burnout, but even staging I feel it. It doesnt let up till half way through 2nd on my truck. I sure could have used a RAD last night. I only ran a 13.02@108 and the 60' was like a 2.3xxx. I think it's safe to say it has alot left in it.

from what i understand the BD-box fools the computer in thinking it's going faster then 50mph and it's in 3 gear

i was mearly guessing at the speedo wire from the comments above. i no the 98.5 and 99 trucks did not have torque managment. if so you would never be able to get rpms up to 4k in first gear;)

Here is the answer I got on another forum

I have cut the wires and it works. Against the firewall, above and to the right of the valve cover are two connectors. One has a white connection lever, the other a black connection lever. The black harness has the torque management wire (white with black tracer), the white harness has the speed eliminator (white with orange tracer). I cut the white with black trcer wire and then started truck. It started and ran fine only the tach and speedo did not work. I verified by doing a few launches in my driveway. I then tied into a toggle on my dash and have torque mangement off or on. After I purchased the smarty and loaded it, the torque management is the same as if the switch is off. So, yes smarty does remove torque mangement. I will probably remove the toggle and wire back in the way it was from the factory. I talked with Dave from here. He goes by fishin2deep4u. He was a huge help. I am sure he will chime in sooner or later. I believe the mod will work on 2000 through 2002 trucks with autos. It should work on some 2003 and 2004 trucks also. If it does't, just solder the wires back together, no loss, no foul.

ive got a smarty so im covered..altho my 60 ftr still sucks...thats probly the truk not the ecm...anyways id be afraid to go cutting wires on any of these truks since theyre all about elec gremlins already.
this is almost the sole reason i got the smarty
