Alright guys, make this short and simple im getting rid of my CR and buying a 02 and i want to have close to the same power as i have now. I plan to run 200's, comp box, smarty and a twin setup of some sort. I tow occasionally and its right at 10k so i need something that will spool quick stay cool but allow me to make good power. I already know what supporting mods i need so i dont need any advice there just good all around turbo sizing. Any opinions are welcome but please keep from useless post.

Thanks, Brandon.

Auto or Manual? I could tow 15k+ easy with 240s and my 6 speed. Running a 62/65-12 and a S475 setup. Did great until I switched to an auto and dropped to 200s cause it would get warm in OD with the 240s. Locked out OD and locking the Converter it would be ok. I was running a HOT Edge and Smarty for a while also. The Smarty does good on the bottom end with the VP trucks but doesn't add a lot of power. You'll find that it will have better response with the Smarty on the lower settings than cranked up.

Yea it will be manual and I've had a 99 before and ran smarty so Im pretty familiar with how mine ran with it. It was good on low end for sure but ran out up top and then my ts mvp picked up the slack. I just want a clean truck with 200's and be able to tow my camper while staying cool. I waslnt good power with no smoke so hopefully twins will keep it clean.

How would a he351 / S475 do?

Ask the guy who suggested it... His setup while a little different seems to be doing everything he'd like. While its a different application as well but he kinda knows a couple things.

That would probably be a good setup too. I started out with a HX35/S475 and 150s which was a good setup but my HX was going out and I got a good deal on the 62. I know the CR had great luck with the 351/475 setup and there are a few guys running them on older trucks too. I think 95junker is running one on his junker drag truck and has had good luck. It should be a quick spooling setup.

Yea I want to just put them in and go and not have to change anything on it so hopefully I get the right setup the first time.

It will support 700 hp pretty easily and spool like yesterday.it will make the power needed for 12 easy yhe shifting is on you. Imo you would be better off with a built auto. A comparable s400 frame turbo would be a s475 8emm turbine in a 1.10 housing but good luck finding a wastegated one. Just remember when you say s475 there are SIX turbine possibilitys and many turbing housing options.

I gotcha. Im done with autos I know they are faster but I'm not making a race truck I just want a quick day driver. I plan to buy a single cab auto to race later on.

Manual and quick don't go in the same paragraph...

Sure they do just dont expect the mqnual to last LOL but a tripple disc would be my suggestion for quick shifting and holding powa

Oh come on now lol my 99 was still quick after the 6 speed swap and I'm confident it will last.

Oh yea the 5600 is a pain in the arse to shift fast, this truck I'm buying has the 4500 in it and I've never had a problem shifting any of them but it all boils down to the clutch.

off topic and different apllication but i could grab some gears pretty d@mn fast in my fummins with the zf6 6speed

My 4500 was a fast shifter... The 5600 um, no. I'd honestly like to have a G56 in my truck. It would be safe at the power level I'm at and would be smoother driving.

I'm down around Joplin area.

Trubbs, of course a zf shifts fast lol
