I had to be towed off the track for the first time the other day. I was racing a ford lightning. I twisted off a u-joint in the front driveshaft and it was over. I should have been running driveline loops. The truck has to have them to race at a certified track anyways. I was on my sixth pass of the day. Truck was running hard, and I had won every race up to that point. This is just a heads up local track so Im not sure what kind of time it was putting down in the 1/8th.

It ripped up the transmission harness if anyone has one lying around that I could buy. Also it broke the oil return line off the housing of the transmission. I don't know what Im gonna do about that. I was gonna try to drill the cast out and try to tap it and put a fitting in there. I don't think you can weld that cast aluminum, but maybe someone could chime in on that and help me out. Here are a few other races from that day.

I have done the same thing a couple times. broke 2 front u joints then the H joint exploded. Im going to a smaller wheel/tire combo and removing the leveling kit to stop the carnage. If that doesnt work I will do a 14.10 conversion.

Welding cast is tricky but can be done with a TIG. If you can drill and tap it with NPT you would be better off.

Pm Mark Nixon on here he should have the harness. And for the fitting if it just snapped it try using an easy out to pull the broken threads out.

Ha! I lucked out! The fitting DID just snap off in the housing. I was able to get it out after some work. I got a harness coming I just hope it's the right one. Looks like I need the one feeding the rear tail lights and lift pump. Thanks for the help. I need to track down a shifter rod that goes between the floor shifter and transfer case. Other than that, I have a beefed up front driveshaft being made and need some driveline loops.

Seems like your lucky that's all it took out.

I did the same thing this past summer at the track, front drive shaft came out in 4 pieces. Luckily there was no other damage at all.

As for a replacement drive shaft I'd recommend the HD one from Fort Wayne Clutch and Drive Line, $499 shipped to your door. Heavier U-joint/CV joints than factory, really seems to be a quality piece.

I appreciate all the replies. I will check out those driveshafts, that's exactly what I need. After getting under the truck and getting some stuff cleaned up, it seems I got lucky. I fitting DID snap off and I was able to get it out with an easy out. So I'll be back on the road in no time. Thanks for all the help guys
