Im in the process of making my traction bars and right now i have a 6' Chunk of 2"ID Schedule 40 pipe and my top links. since i assumed the toplinks were 2" i got the 2" pipe. the toplinks are 1-1/2". so i used some of the pipe my dad had laying around and sleeved it. ne wmy question is how far should i leave my eyes sticking out?

With the way it sits like this im at 91" from eye to eye. i will need to cut the 6' pipe i will need to be at 71" Eye to Eye

Now how should i weld the Pieces together the top one looks a little better but i think the bottom picture would be stronger sliding the whole thing in. Right now the links are threaded in 1/2 way of the thread which is 3-1/2 inches. should i suck them in more? how much do i need to leave for when i have to readjust them when hooking on a trailer?

When you weld the sleeve and insert in you can drill holes though your 2" sch 40 pipe to weld in. Its called a rosette weld. I'm not sure how much adjustment you will end up needing.

screw the heims in as much as possible, so they dont flex, bend and break doing a hard launch or pulling the sled

but i was told when you put a load on the truck you need to re adjust the bars....or would it be easier to just take them off for that?

To adjust on the truck you would need a right hand thread on one end and a left hand thread on the other.

I would be carefully running a sch 40 pipe as a traction bar you will more than likely bend them.

Sched 40 Will bend. I have bent a couple sets of 40 and Sched 80.

Cheapest alternative that wont bend is 2" X1/4 wall square.

yeah i have left and right hand threads. i have tractor top links. and its too late i already got the schedule 40 pipe. if it bends or breaks ill have to get something different. so how much thread would i need to adjust them?

im running the 2" 1-1/14 on my truck cause i was bending the sch. 40. it does good no problums yet

Even my sch 80 bars bent, I went with 2x1.5" DOM and haven't had any probs yet.
