trailer break away for kill switch

who here has used one or something like it for a kill switch? and what did you hook it to?

Yes i know why not a air shut off i kinda want to stay away from them if i can use something to kill the ecm

you can use them but you have to switch the contacts from normally open to normally closed or vise versa?

All you need is a 12V relay, and a NO (normally open) switch for the back of the truck. Run your hot to the ECM through the NC side of the relay and 12VDC off the battery, through the NO switch at the rear of the truck and back to the activation terminal of the relay. What happens is the relay remains UN energized until the switch on the back of the truck is "flipped" to the closed position. When that happens it supplies 12VDC to the relay, which closes, thereby breaking the circuit to the ECM. Easy as pie.

Yea that should work. I just used an extension cord, cut about a 6" tail off of the male end. Put a ring around the tail, twisted two conductors together. Put this in series with the 12V ignition to the coils on a few relays, as I have several things that drop out.

Fuel pump
Fuel solenoid
Air Shut off

The ring will kill it from the back, the key switch kills it inside the truck.

Driver and sled operated kill switch.
