my 2nd gen 24v is shifting and downshifting into overdrive at 40-45 and will continue to do it until roughly 50.i've tried disconnecting the batteries and leaving the key on to drain the system and reset the comp.still nothing i thought it was the torque converter but if you turn off overdrive you can feel it grab just fine.and its not the overdrive going out because if your in it,it wont slip its just bucking like the torque converter is locking and unlocking any advice please help

This is A very common problem. If one of the two bateries are bad can cause it, loose ground, or just dirty battery terminals. My terminals looked good but the wire was coroded under the insulation and going into the terminals. Once I repaced all four terminals the problem went away and has not came back. Many places try to sell You A noise filter but that only treats the symptom, not the cause.

Is it in and out of O/D or in and out of lock up? You need to be sure of which to get accurate info to go about fixin it.

At sustained speeds of 40 to 45 mph it is always going to hunt considering that is the speed at which they usually shift at...

Just my opinion.

Sounds like solenoid problems and govener pressure sensor. I just went and swapped all the electronics out in the tranny to take care of those sort of problems. Yours is definetly a pressure issues from the sounds of it. And not to mention that a fresh filter and fresh atf+4 is always a good thing in those 47re's

Or is it electrical noise getting to the computer?
A noise filter from Dtt ussually solves it.
But you need to clean the posts on the batteries and all grounds too.

I noticed the same problem on mine when i ran a smarty. took the smarty off and it runs just fine. If you ask me a smarty is a grenade for a stock 47rd, granted pretty much any mod is. but i noticed more problems with shifting and elctronics with the smarty than you can shake a stick at.
