I put a new tranny in my 2001. From Automatic to built Automatic. Get everything put in, correct fluid amount etc. Turn the truck on, it has park, then all other gear settings are forward gears. Did some research and figured it was clutches. Heres where it gets wierd. LEft it alone for a day as it was late the night before, Come back, check fluid, little low so i put a quart in and turn it on. it has all the gears. PRND21. Shut it off to check fluid levels, Perfect. Turn it back on, it has Park and Reverse in all settings. I can not figure this one out!! HELP PLEASE!!

Who did the VB?

Fluid.....

Checking fluid requires YOU to read your dipstick........ HINT... dont be checking trans fluid with engine shut off.

Local guy did the vb. Do you think this is the problem? It is a 48re into an 01. With a 47re vb, but something could be wrong there. If you have any suggestions. Thanks all!

Try this.

Start it up.
Put it in neutral.
Let it run a few minutes.
Leave it running and check the trans fluid.
Add as needed to get it into the hash marks.
Warm it up with a drive then recheck it as above.

Check fluid level with it running, in neutral, on level ground, and warm.

take it back to the guy that built it.

Yep, I would say something is messed up, let him sort it out.

If you always have Reverse, your not applying the rear clutch pack ever.

Sad part is in the long run you would have been better off, and had a better transmission if you would have called goerend. He would sell you the VB, and convertor, and make it right.

My 48re has goerend parts but i bought it from another guy. thats the reason for the swap. What exactly would you suggest is wrong? I thought clutches too, but it has a mind of its own and will sometimes go into only forward gears.
