tranny question

the other day i went to pass someone that was either drunk or just beeing stupid anyway i was running about 35 or 40 so i just floored it, the trunk reved fine but acted like it took it a sencond or two before it shifted into the passing gear. dont know what could be the problem, no other symtoms other than that. battery cables are clean shifts fine all the other time. thanks
