Overhaul kits aren't much. In 2006 it cost me under 300 bucks to replace all my steels, frictions, bands, etc. Just rebuild it with solid parts and never worry about it again.

Did you do the rebuild yourself? How hard is it to rebuild an automatic on your own?

Yes, that would be without a converter, figure about $1300 for a good triple disk. As to how easy it is? I can't tell you just yet, going to be doing my first one here soon though.

Ya it's not bad, I had some training on these transmissions before, but it wasn't much. If you got a way to transfer large files I can transfer you a service manual. For the 2002's, it's basically the same.

so no matter what it would still be really expensive, with the convertors and the valve body covers

Heck ya, you can spend anywhere from 1g - 10g. Depending on what work you do yourself. For me: 2g to do mine myself. 1500 on the ats 5 star converter (got ripped off). 250 Rebuild kit. 50 bucks front drum, mine was shoot. 100 bucks for a shift kit. 100 for oil and another 100 for misc. stuff.

The end result was great though. There's no feeling to compare, when you nuke a stock transmission spending all your money to buy stuff to fix it, spending 2 weeks figuring out how to rebuild it in your bathtub and finally firing it up and hearing that Cummins roar. It's straight Euphoria.

With that many miles and no knowledge of how to build it, I'd be calling Goerend's. Do you have the ability to install a trans? They can ship, or they have installers all over the place. You are looking a few grand though, beware.

yea im in ur shoes on the trannys

1st time i rebuilt my trans i thought i had something an it worked for a while then one day it went down hill so the first one cost like 2800 to rebuild
so i was well am i gonna trust someone else to rebuild anhave the same mess 8 months later or find a better way to do it

Garmon Diesel Performance
will take care of ya bud
no problems
