Help! I am installing my new converter and input, and I am having trouble getting the valve body to line back up properly.. It seems as if the shaft that is connected to the valve body is not letting it fully engage. I have the shifter display out, so its not hitting the VB now. It feels like I could get it to line up, but under some extremely severe forcing to do so. Help!

Are you talking about the park rod? If so remove the OD section , install the VB then reinstall the OD.

Yes, that runs towards/into the OD section. Is removal needed?

It is easier to install the VB when the OD is off.

Going back to it now, But I am bringing the computer to my garage this time.. Thanks for the advise, I'm probably going to try this.

Roll the truck back and forth while your putting in the VB/park rod. It will allow the rod to slide right in. I have swapped numerous VB's and never had to drop the OD unit to do it.

But if his trans is out , it's just a easy to remove 8 bolts as opposed to bending the rod.

Could be, I just figured rocking something back and forth was easier than pulling the bolts, or just grab the output shaft and rotate it back and forth. It will slide in, if you have to force it something is wrong.

Trans is on my bench. I wish it was allready back in, all night I screwed with this, because I didn't believe that I had any end play on the input shaft.. Turns out I was just being weak.. It has about 45 to 50 thousandths play..

Well, I'll be... After all that frustration last nite, this morning... all I did was wiggle the output and the dam thing just popped right into place.. I could have been done with this thing last nite. Thanks Guys!! I always appreciate the CompD family! I'm sure I'll be back shortly with another question of some kind.

ok next one, I have adjusted the front band as normal, but would like to check the space needed for the lever.. any spec on that?

As per the ATSG trans manual .

Tighten the band down to 72 inch pounds then back out EXACTLY 3 and 5/8 ths. The rear band 4 turns.

I have never heard turn it out that much. It should be 1 3/4 to 2 turns.

I thought the rear was like 3 .5 turns and the front was 1.5 or so. It was different from gas to diesel on the 48RE though.

depending on whos vb it is stock is 2 turns on both bands if it is a high pressure vb then 2 turns on rear band 2.25 turns on front band

First off, thanks again for the help guys! The new input and my new PTC triple disc torque converter are in!! :woohoo::woohoo: I filled it, took it for a short drive, and topped it off as it looked like I was about 2 quarts low on the initial fill. It now uses the gears instead of loafing through them like it did with that piece of chit converter that was in there before. When it hits lock up, it is the hardest "shift" feel of any. I am getting more boost #'s in the lower gears too.. only foot brakes to about 1600-1700.. I am VERY happy with this new torque converter. Might even try some locked shifting today now that Opies are in. :rockwoot::rockwoot::rockwoot:
Question: with a couple different ways for bands to be adjusted, I'm not trusting the adjustment that I had made.. I did the 72 inch pounds, and backed off about 2-1/4 turns. If my adjustment is not proper, how can I tell from the performance aspect.. will there be chattering or something? Best I can tell, it is ok. Only thing that is different about the way it runs is the converter being more efficient, and the 2nd-3rd shift is delayed slightly now. Not a slow shift, but it waits to a higher rpm to make the shift. Don't know if I could have gotten something in the valve bodyas I did not seperate the plates, or if this has something to do with the front band adj. Any ideas ?
