Not sure where I should put this, so I hope this is good enough. I got an 01 1500 with a gasser... plan to put a 12v in later. They brought it over on a trailer, said the trans is blown. It was in a flood, and after that plus some trans work it only moves when it wants to.
I was looking at the troubleshooter on my scanner and it was saying it could have a clogged filter. I crawled underneath to see if the pan had been off, and it doesn't look like it, but the pan is dented about a 1/4-1/2" from someone trying to jack the trans up from the pan.
Could this be restricting oil flow through the filter? Anyone know how much clearance there is between the pan and the bottom of the filter?
Now, I can get it to go in gear and drive for a little while, by shutting the motor off, then starting and quickly throwing it into gear. It really doesnt slip either, it will burn the tires... well a little. lol If you try to take off down the road it starts to slip and not move past that, like it had enough oil to get in gear, but when you demand more, it starves and quits.
Does this sound about right?
