Hi Everyone,

I just came across this site researching my next project. I plan to put a 6bt/Auto/4x4 and D60/70 axles into a FJ60 Land Cruiser. One of the reasons I plan to do an axle swap is because I would to have 400hp and the stock axles will not hold up.

I have been reading and using the search engine and have not found any discussions pertaining to beefing up the transfer case. Any advice?

Thank you for the help.

Measure how wide it is between the inner side of your frame on the Land Cruiser. For ultimate strength, I would look at a 271 case from the 3rd gen trucks. If you are restricted because of your frame, a 241DHD would be the next choice. When buying a transfer case, make sure you buy correct one that will go behind an auto tranny. Transfer case input shaft is different splines between auto and manual trannys. As far as strengthing up the transfer case, talk to Transfer Case Xpress, Quad 4x4 or similar drivetrain shop.

If you're just playing around off road a stock transfer case should be fine, if you're sledpulling with 800hp then step up. If you need one I've got a 241DLD lying around that needs a range fork I'd sell cheap.

The reason you don't see a ton of people build them up since even the stock internal parts can cost an arm and leg, it's not worth it to build up if you can upgrade to the next best one for less.
