transmission downshifting?

Have a buddy with a first gen 12v. it has been cold here lately and the truck has been having issues with taking forever to warm up....and i mean a long time. just replaced the thermostat water pump and nothing. any ideas?

also when the truck finally warms up and the thermostat opens up the tranny kicks into 3rd and wont upshift at all. any ideas?

The no-overdrive thing is probably a throttle position sensor issue. I think it does something like that; I hear people moaning about it all the time but I don't have one.

The warm up thing is different. They don't typically warm up until a few miles and won't warm up idling. If you know doublesure the thermostat is good, I'd start checking around the engine for hot spots and making sure that you are getting good flow.
