We have a 94 cummins with and 47rh automatic trans, when we are driving and give the truck throttle it doesn't want to shift from 3 to 4th gear and to make it shift you have to let off the throttle. Then when it's in 4th if you apply to much throttle it will shift back into 3rd.

So my questions are what could cause this?

And also the transmission shop says that it is the turbo boost is causin it to do that, but we were thinking why would the turbo be causing that they aren't even connected. Would the turbo cause such a thing?

The turbo has NO affect on transmission operation!

Id say it could be several issues but Id check the voltages at the TPS first. It may be a hard parts issue like OD clutch pack worn or OD check valve stuck.

Also double check the adjustment at the p-pump to make sure there is no slop in the trans cable.

Is that the kickdown cable that your talking about

It that it kickdown cable that your talking about

yes. it should have no play in it when you start pressing the skinny pedal and should open full back at the trans at about full pedal travel.

Id recommend getting a service manual. TPS is throttle position sensor.

Well my dad is the one doing that, I am just trying to help him out.
I think we are going to have to fix it ourselves because they dont know whats going on at the trans shop.
