Can anyone give me a definition of what a trick hitch is? All I ever see is no trick hitches. Whats OK and whats not?

not sure if i am 100% correct but i have heard of some that somehow attach to the rear axle and as the sled loads on the truck it raises the hitch height to give it little more when pullin usin some sort of linkage

I think the term "Trick Hitch" is basically anything that is not a Resse style hitch.

For instance I know a guy whose got a hitch that basically runs through the reciever tube and ties in to his goose kneck ball hitch.

He took the square reciever tube and tilted it so that he could install basically a really long peice of square stock that tied into the goose kneck hitch and had his hole for the sled to hook to on the other end.

I can draw ya a picture if it'd help visualise it...

But basically I believe a trick hitch is any modified Reese style hitch.

Several things are getting mixed up here. There are three types of hitches in pulling; Resse, Drawbar and, Trick

A Reese hitch is just that one that bolts or welds to the truck can accept several towing options that slide in horizontally.

A Drawbar or Pulling hitch is one that is built for the sole purpose of pulling. Most the time they tie into the frame above the axle and have an adjuster at the rear going to the frame or rear axle.

A Trick hitch is one that will move up during the pull. I have seen them set up with linkage to the rear end and airbags.

I have also heard about "tower" hitches.....Anyone know much about them? there are some gasser trucks in the largest DOT tire class up here running a draw bar style hitch but some how the hitch point is up above the box behind the rear window. I have also heard of some OSTPA trucks running them but not to the extent our smaller gasser trucks up here are.

Bingo!!! Need to talk with the tech officials and/or association to find out what their definition of a trick hitch is.

Ryan you got a picture? Sounds like an extended drawbar to me.

Yea, and if someone would do the FBD on it, they would see it doesn't really help, it may actually even hurt depending on the attachment point and the geometry of the truck.

from what I have seen up from these gassers up here that are running that style hitch....they are hooking harder than ever before and I have been following this class since 1999 when I was building my Super stock truck. I am going to a pull tomorrow night and saturday where they will be at and will take some pics of there setups.

If the geometry is there that can be some benefit. I am saying draw the picture, label the forces, and see. They could be the best thing since slice bread, or there could be several changes that allow these trucks to be hooking harder than before(tires, used to hook off of the bumper, etc, etc)

There are times some one will make a claim and if you analyze it with laws of statics, it falls apart.

i know its not a trick hitch question but didnt someone at diesel power challenge several years back hook to the sled then raise his bags towards the end of the track??
