Tried starting my '00 today. It was just cranking over. Turned key off then tried again, cranked over a bit then fired up. The tack moved to idle, then died. Threw code- P1693 ( wich means nothing?)
So I drove it around a bit and tried starting it again, had no problems. Also the truck was warm when i tried the first time.

What could this be? I do not have any guages on it yet, and dont know if the LP is bad.

hard warm starts are usually a sign of a weak vp44. usually electronic death so even if it has good FP the vp might be on its way south.

thats what I was thinking:bang but didnt know if the tach issue could make it anything else?

So if I read this correct, the truck was at idle, the tach showed it at idle, then went flat? That shows a communication problem somewhere, start checking plugs etc, you might just have a wonky connection somewhere.

The tach died about 2-3 seconds after start up, then once I started driving it worked. Would this have anything do do with the poor start-up? Or just two seperate issues?

Hard to say, the tack acting wonky sounds like either a PCM problem or a wiring issue. If the PCM is not getting a signal from the Cam or crank sensor it might not start?

a friends truck was doing the same thing... the tach would randomly fall to 0. He replaced the crank and cam sensor and it fixed the problem.

I'm with Lavon, a jumpy tach is usually a bad crank positon sensor. Mine did it on my 98.5.
