Well, I am away at college right now, but my dad called me about a month ago ans said the truck had broken down. It is a 2001 Cummins w/ the 47re and has about 265,000 miles on it. He was driving along and it started failing it ended up dying on him later down the road and he got it towed. He said that when he tried to fire it up it sounded like it was knocking. He doesn't have much time to work on it, so he took it to a shop. There they took it apart and found coolant in the oil. They suspected a head gasket at first, but found more trouble when they tore it apart. Basically what I understood is that they would turn it over, but the two center pistons would hardly move at all. Has anybody heard of this happening or know what it could be? Does anybody have any recommendations as to what I should do? Should I try to rebuild it, get another engine or sell the truck for parts? i don't really know where to go from here, but thanks. Oh, and the only mods done to it was that I removed the muffler and straight piped it.
The mechanic also mentioned something along the lines that we should get the pump checked because it might have been over fueling those cylinders leading o the failure.
