Hey fellas- I was driving one of my 01s home from work this morning and I got on the big road and everything was going great... As I picked up speed namely 45 in between 52 give or take a few the truck started ''cutting in and out'' so it sounded like and I could even feel it in my acceleration foot and my hand that was steering the wheel... Like a jerking feel it would cut out for a sec then be fine then cut out this was all very quick like not much time in between these flucuations...

When I reduced speed it went away and when I really got on it- it was gone too or so it seemed.

I have never had this problem with any of my cummins trucks before and I have been an owner or a cummins since 03...

This truck I am speaking of runs ''rough'' anyways... I got a tranny that ''slams itself into gear'' and doesnt hit overdrive till over 50mph- all ats... A sledpuller 66 turbo... haisley NASTY injectors w tubes and a fass 180 they are so big it slops at idle I cant remember exactly what size but I pull with em' and aint swapped em yet... edge hot drag comp and other goodies...

and it wasnt changing speeds or anything it just changed the sound and feel... and i saw my exhaust smoke varying in my mirror it would cut when the sound cut wah UGH wah UGH wah ----- ugh------ sounded weird as hell.... forgive me for that retarded description... but i cant explain it

They arent too pricey, but they are a bear to get to without yanking the VP.

Thanks Tim... I havent got around to doing any more investigating yet... it hasnt done it since that day.... weird!!!

uhh... thats the speed your tq converter hits lockup, are you sure your not slipping your converter? mine did that when it went out only under mid throttle, under full throttle there was enough line pressure to fully engage it.

my guess is the apps, whatever you want to call it, i saw one do that not too long ago, they are around 500.00 if memory serves me right.:stab:

I was going guess the APPS also. Check over on DTR there is a much lower cost substitute explained over there for the OEM APPS.

The converter should be fine... I replaced it with an ATS in March and aint been hard on it at all... Only pulled twice this summer... And now it aint been doing it it only did it that morning and then later that night... I still have a lot of investigating to do to get it back to tip top shape...
I appreciate everyones input and Ill keep you posted. I am going to check the APPS and I ordered sensors lastnight... we'll see what happens.

there is a recalibration sequense for the apps, unplug it for like 5-10 min with batteries hooked up, plug back in and turn the key on, when the dinging stops SLOWLY push the petal to the floor and SLOWLY return to idle. The apps can lose its calibration if the ignition is killed while the petal is depressed, or if power is lost while driving (truck shutting off) also, if you pump the petal while cranking, it can do the same thing. try this, it may solve the issue!!!

i will try this because the trouble seemed to go away and now it is back in motion as of this morning... I was not aware of this recalibration process that you just explained so anything to save me some money... I am currently not able to drive my other 01 due to waiting for my Dynatrac Hubs and fixing all other **** dodge front end parts... So my pull truck is serving for my driver to and from work and while I dont like that idea.... i didnt think it would start going ape ****... last thing i needed first thing this morning lol...

I will try the recalibration and if that doesnt work I am gonna be praying its a sensor but I am leaning towards the converter like Levon said... which makes NO SENSE it is damn near new....
