If you are running an engine on Diesel fuel that has algae/ bacteria/ fungus growing in it, and it doesn't just cause the filter to clog entirely, will it result in heavy black smoke emissions?

I've only experienced this in Powerstrokes. It never caused excessive smoke and it did plug the filters.

From my experince when I worked in a truck shop I saw a lot of black fuel when changing FWS's, didnt notice that any of them smoked. for some reason they were usually Volvos with an ISX (not that its related, could be a driver thing).

Worked on a lot of tractors and trucks that I've seen black fuel in, and I've never seen them smoke more that anything else... just plugs the filters up.

If you're filter gets too clogged the truck will smoke due to low fuel pressure. Otherwise no.
