TS Race: Diesel Only?

I was wondering if the match races in the Pro Diesel category were going to be DIESEL FUEL ONLY or DIESEL FUEL WITH ADDITIVES?

I would think the only way to ensure that all the trucks are running #2 diesel is to have all the trucks..(i.e Banks, Stucky, Dr. P, etc) to come to the staging lanes with empty fuel tanks, all fill up from the same diesel drum, to make sure everyone is on a level playing field. After all, don't all those trucks claim to run on DIESEL FUEL only? If thats truely the case, I think this would clear the air on rumors of fuel additive usage.

Some of the guys here at Banks have been pushing for a "spec fuel" at the events. From what I heard, it was in the works for Bakersfield, but they just didn't have the time or the resources to pull it off.

If we could get someone like Conoco/Phillips or BP, or someone, to come through with 55 gallon drums, like VP (I think...?) has at most NHRA events, and Rocket Brand has for the Hot Rod Power Tour, I think we'd be set.

Would be nice, huh?

Has there been any proof that reg. over the counter attitives really increase power? I would think increasing the cetane levels would make good since due to the lower sulfer these days. I added a bottle of grey bottle Power Service the other day before my dyno event, had never done it before so dont know if it added any power or not. Any hard numbers on this topic??

Lots of the trucks, especially with P-style pumps will run fine on pump diesel but I wouldn't run any diesel fuel that didn't have additives in it. Our diesel fuel in this country is crap! We work on many trucks that contaminated fuel has put them down. I certainly wouldn't run that fuel through a $5 or $10K injection pump and special injectors. If the rack sticks at 140mph+ it won't be pretty. It's not worth the risk. A little cetane boost seems to help also.

Sure, this just happens to coincide with $4.40/gallon diesel prices... I think that to be sure we are all using pure diesel (even in ET brackets) they should supply all the fuel to travel to the race as well, to make sure any additives have been washed out of the system...

Not sure about the diesel fuel being crap. It's no Jet-A, but seems to do the trick. We haven't seen any wear or corrosive problems in our fuel system with it.

It's crap. 8-10 cetane points lower then euro spec fuels, with piss poor refining pratices. Mercedes claims fuel related warranty issues are 10 times as high in the US compared to European nations.

I just know from my shops experience. We have many vehicles that have injector problems because of water contamination and sediment. The common rail guys are having nightmares about injectors splitting and bypassing fuel problems. I've had two 06 model Dodges that melted pistons and dropped valve seats because of split tips on injectors, all stock trucks. The dealerships voided their warranties because of contaminated fuel. My customers are trying to find a safe place to buy fuel. Maybe it's just a Tennessee problem. I sure wouldn't run this stuff in my racing motor without lots of additives, and I really don't want to run ULSD in it, it's off-road 500 ppm fuel for me.

We can arrange to have some spec fuel in Steele if need be.

Why not have one 500 gallon tank for ALL the racers to pump out of? Then again, if you want additives they can be added before or after the fuel...

Timmy, that is deffinately necessary, however, if you have spec fuel, you need to trace the fuel lines to see where they go, (so they arent injecting anything after the tank), also, spec nitrous may be needed...LOL

Take it for what it's worth, but as far as our fuel, vs Europe's fuel...our is absolute crap in quality.

All of our tractor's engines are designed and tested in Europe, on their fuel...bring them over here, and the tuning is a little off and they will white smoke...some a little, some a LOT! They even took some engines out of units here, and sent them to the factory, fired them up and they ran fine. Send them back, they smoke.

This has been a huge headache for us to get the tuning right. Although our fuel quality is still better than Russia and China...when we send machines over there they have about 5 different fuel filters in varying degrees of capacity.

I'll be drinking spec beer after the race as well. LOL

Since when did there become a "Diesel Only" class in diesel drag racing??:what:

I sense fear in this one...the force is weak within him.

Get over it and race Alex, stop riding the Banks coat tails and worrying about our "secret" nitrous and "special" diesel. It's the same nitrous oxide you or anyone else can buy, with the same 50PPM sulfur dioxide so people won't huff it. The diesel is the same thing anyone gets when they go to your local fuel station and fill up.

Heck, if you really needed it, I'm sure Gale would be nice enough to give you guys the nitrous like we have a few guys at different races. When there's no nitrous fill station around and we've got it, we can be very generous...just ask. And if your hauler runs out of fuel, we could siphon some out of the fuel tank in the Type-D if need be.

Just proving a point. We fear what we do not understand...
