I figured I'd do this Thread for us Newbies. I've been doing a little research but still yet I haven't gotten a straight forward answer.

What is the best "Bang for Buck" Turbo? HX35, HX40, Hybrid or Other???

Explain Limitations of each Turbo: HP/TQ, EGTs, Boost

Explain what Turbo would be best for each Application: DD, Tow, Drag, or Pull

If there is anything I missed Explain that too :)
Thanks Everyone...

What turbos do you really want to know about? Just hx35 hx40 hybrids? or S300 and S400 singles?

You should have posted this in the turbo section, are you only wanting to know what turbo would be best for 98-02?

Well I was kinda hoping that I could get someone that is experienced enough to do a write-up on all of these Turbos. Explain the Limitations of each etc.

Lets say that I have an HX40 Turbo. At what point would this Turbo not be enough. What would my Limits be? HP/TQ, Boost etc.?

On all of what turbos? Do you understand how many variations of turbos there are? Im guessing you would like to know about compound (twin and triple) turbo setups as well?

You would need to first ask what turbo you want to know about, there are multiple turbo companys on here, a quick search with google will net you alot of turbo info on many chargers through Garret and Borgwarner sites.

Be a little more specific,

Your thread is a good idea, but there are a lot of turbos out there with many different housings...it would be next to impossible to make a comprehensive list.

For example, what compressor size on the HX40?

Edit: I see TM beat me to it.

Well I guess I bit off more than I can chew on this one lol. I didn't know there were so many variations. I just thought and HX40 was just that. These are the specs for the Turbo I found. How would this work? Why or Why not?

Compressor
A/R: 0.58
Inducer Dia: 61.0
Exducer Dia: 88.0
Air inlet Dia: 101.5
Air outlet Dia: 64.5

Turbine
A/R: 0.94
Inducer Dia 64.5
Exducer Dia: 74
Divided
V-band
Wastegate setting: 2.3 kgf/cm2

Hx40s have weak shafts (excuse the pun :D ). Anyway they will work well in a compound setup as there is less stress on the shaft and usually less 'bark'. It can be run as a single but needs to be babied a little more than a s300. I haven't seen a 62mm hx40, is it a billet variation?

So what would be the best Turbo for me?
I use my truck as a DD and I like to do some drag racing every now and again but right now it's no fun... my truck is to slow lol. I don't wanna get to crazy just a nice gain in Power. Furthest I will probably ever get into this thing would be injectors, and that's a "Maybe one of these days" type of thing.

I've been thinking about getting a Smarty Programmer as well. What are your thoughts on them?

What year truck? I personally would hang a large turbo under your stocker.

Not to be a dic but you did see the name of this site right?

Maybe this site http://www.cumminsforum.com/would be more your speed just a thought

So just because the name of this site is Competition Diesel that means that there are no Stock or Slightly Modded Trucks in here???
If that's the case then this site should be Full of Professionals and I should get my questions answered here pretty easy ;)

best bang turbo wise for money is an s300 variant......tuning can spool 62's like stock

62/65/12 or 14 > 400hp rpm limits with small exh housing
62/71/12 or 14 > 450hp
62/75/12 or 14

^^^^^most common standard upgrade good for mild hp and towin

64/65/12 or 14 can be surgy
64/71/14 > 500+hp
64/75/14

6671/12 or 14 > 600+hp
66/75/12 or 14

personally i hate small exh housings........unless they are used in a properly setup twin setup

hx hybrids are bandaids.......they will never put out the air that an s300 will

So I'm gonna say for just a Slightly Modded Truck the 62/71/12 or 14 would be just about Perfect, Correct?

Another questions. What are the Pros and Cons to have the 12 opposed to the 14?

I run a II PS62/65/14. Spools a tad slower than stock with a 6 speed, but tows like a dream. It puts down 450hp/972ft-lbs with a Juice and 90hp DDP injectors. If you want fast spool up, do a 12. If you want cooler egt's, do a 14. I tow heavy and often and like the setup alot.

My truck is just a "slightly modified" one and I'll never claim to know anything about turbos or any of that high performance talk. But, there is you one option that works. $.02 :D

Didn't mean to hurt your feelers I was offering help

Ha nice wink thing at the end.

Explain Limitations of each Turbo: HP/TQ, EGTs, Boost

"stock or slightly moody" HX35 with wastegate set a 35 cost free

350hp (good and hot) 32-35 lbs max boost. EGTS are controlled by your foot

"Towing" twins- stock secondary and a smaller S400 primary

550hp (egts towable all day long) 65lbs boost

Why because for a few hundred more dollars you can have your cake and eat it too.

Thats as far as i am going to go for you. best way to learn about the "best" something is to go to that site I listed they literally has a "best oil cap thread"

Enjoy what else do you need to know _______http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/search.php________

Explain one thing (in my nicest voice haha) what is a insanedomestic and how does it relate to you? I am curious something insane to me whether its a car or pickup would be fast so you must have some sort of hi performance type knowledge right?
