whats it cost to have a hx-35 freshened up?

(assuming the shaft, wheels, and housings are still usable)

who would you have do the work?

thanks in adv

don

ps - anyone know what they are going for new these dayz?

(with a gate)

50-60 bucks for a rebuild kit. I would hesitate to do an HX35 yourself. Just a couple small snaprings to hold in the journal bushings.

what size wheel you want me to put in that little housing?

they come 54/58 and for 300 hp i think they are about perfect

its not for my turbo and its not for my truck

open to options - what size wheels did the 40 use? how much are they? would it really be worth spending the extra few hundred bucks?

You'll need a 40 housing and have the backing plate machined to fit the new wheel, too. Just grab a rebuild kit and be sure everything is CLEAN and the shaft isnt bent/cracked/burnt/scored. dont forget to prelube before install.

Just don't rebuild it like my buddy did. He put a o ring in the wrong spot and found out how much it cost to rebuild the engine too. All I have to say is that thing had to be turning some serious rpm, because it threw the tone ring that was bolted to the crank through the oil pan. Pieces of the tone ring bounced around inside smacking the bottoms of the pistons and the insides of the block. It also melted the pistons and left some aluminum on the head from the pistons

lol

that sounds a little more like driver error than turbo faliure

no?

thanks for all the info everyone

I think what he was getting at is that the o-ring allowed oil to be sucked into the motor, causing a runaway condition. You have two options at that point: get the air cutoff somehow, or stand by and watch your motor blow.

A shop rag in the turbo works well to stop a run away when the intercooler is FULL of oil

I wouldn't hesitate to rebuild one at all the only thing I had trouble with was the snaprings had such small holes that I couldn't find pliars to fit them, I even bought snapons set that had interchangable heads and still ended up filing the smallest tips down.

The rebuild kits I've been getting from HTT were bout 90ish a few years back, where can ya get them cheaper, I never really shopped around.

thats how new i am to diesel...

never knew

holy smokes

no offense but i wanna watch

lol

Any drunk monkey with thumbs can rebuild it, how do you finish balance it in the garage?

Oh come on gary we all know that it cant be important to balance a turbo :bang:bang:bang:bang

I have done all my turbos with no ballancing at all. The real ballance is when your foot touches the rad cap without being burned!!.........:hehe:

i have rebuilt many at home,it's easy!

if you reuse the stock shaft and wheel and mark their posistion why rebalance?

Thats hardly fair since you have the turbo balancing pixie dust
