turbo shaft play

how bad is alittle side to side play on the turbo, and is it expensive to fix. I found a used turbo at a fair $
 
I little side to side is ok thats where the oil film will take place once oil pressure is being feed to it while running, if its alot enough to touch the housing you prob have to much and if it has much in and out play is also something to check out.
 
It's a HX35/40 home built with a 8 vane wheel for $525, he had a 35 and a 40 and put them together.
 
What mods are you running? If you're planning on going bigger, you'd be better off saving your money and getting a 62mm turbo... just my .02
 
01,qc,4x4,6spd,s.b.ofe,rv275,edge jwa,banks exh brake, I'm thinking about going with an inline exh. brake, so i could go with a 62, but wouldn't i need bigger stix so it wouldn't be laggy?
 
Yea. A bigger set of sticks would help. RV275's are what? like 40 over stock? The mach 1.5's (85 hp) I was running with my 62/14 wasn't very laggy..
