If I was going to check for "shaft play" tolerance on an HX35 what would be within spec. Does Holset set a pre-determined amount before needing to be rebuilt? Can it be done with a dial gauge?

I want to say .003 to .005 shaft end play. Not up and down but in and out.

Good and Cheap?

Good and cheap are not usually found in the same product. Its seems unfair, yes. Your least expensive route wound be a new cartrage and reuse your compressor and turbine housings.

As long as it's not rubbing the housing I would run it. The oil floats the shaft in the bearings.
