Finally got the new charger installed today. Its a 64/68-14 from Engineered Diesel. On our test drive everything went great spools up well nice whistle etc... however when the TC locks in OD it starts surging BAD. its enough to shake the truck and make the boost gauge do a 20 psi sweep from 10 psi to 30 and back and forth etc:doh:... It only happens around at about 50-60% throttle more than that and the lockup speed raises less than that and the lockup is not as violent. Any ideas? What exactly causes surge? I should also add that the stocker was doing it under the same conditions only very little and not enough to make me back out of the throttle. And it was slowly getting worse. Someone was telling me that I was needing more fuel. After thinking about this if it is the case im leaning towards my LP its been ticking badly and there's also another nice post already about it on here. Anyway im thinking its running out of fuel during that hard shift.

my 62/65/12 does that some times if i am pulling a hill at lite throttle when it hits loc up. when i feel loc up coming i just push a little harder on the pedal.
 
surge occurs when the compressor is trying to feed the engine more than it can accept at a given pressure ratio... you need a larger turbine housing, larger turbine wheel, ported cylinder head, or different cam. You might be able to have your MWE slot cut a little wider on the compressor housing and it might aleviate the surge
 
What stator do you have in your converter? These Goerend converters lock up hard, quickly pulling the RPM down. If your converter is pretty loose, the difference in RPM when its in the fluid coupling vs. when it is in lockup may be enough to make any turbo surge.
 
good call... I've got a looser converter, and when I'm at 1/2 throttle holding 2200rpm in OD, when it locks up, I get a little surge, but nothing crazy like he's describing.

hmmmmmmmmm.....i figured you did something...... thats why you are wanting to race...nice...not enuff truck ... you wanna trade turbos......
