Used Turbo Worth It?

Found a Silver 64 for $1450. Guy says 5000 miles daily driver only. No racing or pulling and ran it with stock sticks and a Smarty only. Said max egt he saw was 1000 deg. What do you guys think? I've been generally against buying used turbos, but this is the one I was going to get anyway. It's kinda hard to imagine only 1000 deg for a max egt. Does this sound right? What to do?
 
check industrial injections website and a few others. They were running a sale in which that turbo was like 1,400 new

Thats just it, there's really no way I can know until I bought it and got it to my house. He says zero play in the shaft. I just wish he was close so I could examin it good.

Also, whats been the experience with bad turbos destroying other things?
Never seen one blow so I don't know what typically happens.
 
A good friend of mine has a phat shaft 66 that I was considering buying, but I am going to hold off since it would be pretty miserable for me to drive around on a regular basis... see: stock injectors....

I purchased the silver bullet 66 they were all the same price anyways the 62/64/66. Brand new paid 1800 for it on a group buy. Id pay near 1000ish for it used. good luck
 
1000 degree's max? Hmm that would be tough in my opinion,very tough.
All he would need to do is lug the truck a bit to run the temps up especially when that turbo require some spool to get it going.
 
a 64 would be sweet as they flow a ton of air and they arent that laggy if you have the fuel which it looks like u do. 1000 degrees is a little hard to buy but my trucks max with a 64 is 1300 from a dead stop
 
The last used turbo lasted 3 months... The guy said it only had about 100 miles on it.. When I got it it was in good shape, and tight. It ran good for a while.. I paid 950 for it htt 62/71/14... I sent it in to be rebuilt, and upgraded to a 62/62/13ss with exhaust, and compressor polished, for 1400 bucks.. Now i got 2200 into a 1800 dollar turbo... I would never buy a used turbo unles I personally know the guy selling...
 
sometimes people are selling problems...not parts. I wouldn't risk that kind of money unless i knew him personally. buy new
 
Kliener has a good used Silver Bullet for sale in the For sale forum. I think he was wanting like 1200 for it??

Nowadays, people are selling parts to buy groceries and make mortgage payments.

I know that alot of the spare parts in my shed are getting sold. Anybody want a second gen head or 1st gen AC compressor core? :poke:
