used turbos, worth anything?

Ive been out of the loop for a bunch of years now, so I have no idea about this one. If you have an old turbo thats still functional is it even worth anything, considering its an unknown to a buyer. and vice-versa.. If I was buying someones used stuff, would I want to throw cash down on something unknown?
and the rebuild 'kits' you get are mostly a scam, but you can get the OE borg kits for more.. assuming you indexed the compressor and nut to the shaft perfectly Id imagine its safe and you could call that 'rebuilt' in a sale. otherwise youre looking at what, 500$ to send it out? and then whos going to want to shell out 900$ or whatever for something thats not shiny like new.
seems like a losing game.. do most of you all keep old turbos as spares?
Ive got a S358 / S472 setup for towing, but not sure about the secondary exhaust housing size. maybe keep my old S362 single for a later upgrade.

I’d buy an old Super b special for good money and not be too scared. Just me wanting something they don’t make anymore. Really depends on who I’m buying from. I wouldn’t be too worried about any of the ugly folks here. They good people. Just ugly.

Yes but the super b special is a 64.5/71 14cm Brad Ponci and I think BrettWINspeed made over 700hp and ran some bottom 11’s with one. Be a fun one to play with or build some rowdy compounds.
 
I have an old Phat shaft I'm going to have rebuilt and run as a single/all around turbo. I need to pull it a part. it's either a 62/71 or 64/71. Maybe try some newer wheels to get some more air flow if possible.

Get a s300 58mm with a t3 gated housing, and a box 475/96/1.32 compounds. And I promise it will be way more fun than a single 364.
 
I still have that stainless diesel hot pipe for a S300 to T6 s400, for a 2nd gen.
