gonna put some valve springs on a friends truck here in a couple days.. any good write ups with pics i can check out?

I'll post up some pics of a plate that My neighbor made for me. It compresses all 4 springs at once and takes about 5-10 mins per cylinder. if its for a VP truck, The clamp that holds the injector down....those 2 small reatining capscrews are what i use to compress this plate down perfectly over all 4 retainers and then just use a magnet to suck out the keepers. I'll post some up later tonite.

thanks. maybe a stupid question but how do ya stop the valves from falling in the head?

This plate/tool that i used wont hold them up. I pulled the injector out, ran a screwdriver down and turned it to where it was at TDC to hold the valves up that way. This plate will take you about 20 minutes to make. I still havent gotten home yet to post up some pics. but ill have them up tonite.

sorry about taking so long, i forgot the election was tonite and i stayed infront of the tv biting my fingernails just to

I get them ASAP now.

Okay, I already had my injectors out, with this plate you need to pull them first, Turn the alternator clockwise while a screwdriver is in the cylinder to find TDC so the valves dont fall in. The threaded holes that hold down the injector clamp is where you pull this plate down from.

Threaded rod would be the best way to go or find some long bolts that are the same as the ones holding the clamp down. Thats what i did but had problems with them being too long and had to use a socket on each one to take out the space. I can clamp down very far but threaded rod with a nut ontop of the plate pulling it down would allow me to go even further.

To get the template we got a piece of cardboard, laid it over the valves and used a ballpin hammer to hammer the imprint of where the valves are so you know where to drill. As far as the other holes for the bolts, put them in and tap them with a hammer as well. This is 1/4" aluminum and it compresses them super easy. We used a 3/4" bit for the valve retainer holes and what ever fits your needs for the other 2. We counter sunk the bottom side so the taperd edge of the retainer slids in nice and center and allowes you plenty of room to play with the keepers.

Bottom where we counter sunk...

Hope this helps.

damn!!! that looks easy to make. thanks alot man. i really appreciate it. that makes changine them super fast since you are doing 4 at a time right?

You can buy the Cummins tool for $99 from Spx Miller does all four at once. You don't have to remove injectors on a 2nd with this tool either.

Yea it makes it super fast. I already had my injector out so that made it that much easier for me. Dosent take much to make it or you can buy the tool. I was inline for the loaner tool but at the bottom of the list and diddn't feel like spending money for something i'd use one time.

would there be anyway i could get the measurements of your plate? id like to make one so i can put those springs in my friends truck on sunday. but i am gonna be at his house like 2 hours away from my shop/tools. so id like to have it made before i get to his house. thanks alot crazytexan.
