Is the van turbo a direct bolt on replacement? And what would be the benefits over a stock truck turbo? thanks

the 7.3L van turbos have a larger non gated ex housing other than that there are no differences. i used to work on e450 buses and decided to swap one on to the 99 f350 6spd i used to own. well that was a big mistake the lag between shifts was worse than before and with my tst on 140hp setting it made alot more smoke and less boost.

Yes with stock injectors and mild tuning it will lag. I made 400hp with a van turbo.

Thanks for the help
and what kind of setup did you have to make 400hp with a van turbo?

Stock fuel sys, 530 hybrid injectors and a van turbo. The basic intake exhaust and chip.

I put one on my old '02 Powerstroke, it lost a little on the bottom but gained a little on the top. I was making 36 psi of boost with the stocker and then 30psi with the van turbo, which I was much happier with. I sold the truck to my buddy and he put some injectors in it and its now making around 370 rwhp at 31-32 psi of boost. Hope this helps!
