I resently purchased a VE 12V from a 90 model 2wd, #6 piston is gone and the cylinder walls on #5 and #6 are pretty rough looking, but I think it can be bored out without sleeving. My Question is, how strong are the VE Rods, Crankshaft and Block compared to the p-pump and VP pump engine componets. I plan on using them to build a CR headed p-pump engine for sled pulling on a budget. Are there any differences in strength and reliability between them, or am I just wasting my time and should sell everything and start over?

I had heard that the early blocks were good, but the rods weren't as strong.

I have been runnin an extremely high mileage VE motor at 60 psi pullin for about 3 years - no issues upper or lower - and no o-rings or fire rings - just studs

I have compared 91 N/I to 97 12v rods, the 1stgens i have, have a finer surface finish, weighed in around 15 grams heavier, and were closer balanced to each other than the 97 2ndgens. However I can not comment on strength, but they appear to be identical.
