Turning into the parking lot at work yesterday I got a strange vibration. I was doin maybe 10mph. At 40 I can feel in the floor board and hear it. Also I can hear and feel it while slowing down from any speed.

I checked the front hubs and they are fine. The truck is getting a front end alignment, rotate and balance as we speak.

Where do I look next?

check all the u-joints? best to check in neutral on level ground.

Transfer case. I checked the fluid and some plastic fell out of the drain. FML

This truck might be up for sale soon. No joke.

If it's a 241 DHD, the plastic could be from one of the fork wear pads, which there are 6 of them, parts if the plastic thrust washer from the planetary, or part of the oil pick up screen. If its a DLD it should be about the same, I am uncertain as I have not had a DLD apart but they are very similar in parts.

It's a DLD and the plastic is probably the wear pads on the shift forks. It just dropped it off at Tangi Diesel. Once Marks gets a chance to tear into we will know more. :/

I had Jeff replace the shift forks a few years back. Kinda sucks having to do it again.

Are you sure it wasnt the double u-joint on the front driveshaft? I had to rebuild the one on my old truck.

Well Mark pulled my transfer case and it is goin to require some attention. I guess my question is how do these shift forks wear out so quickly? I had Garmon do the something a few years back and can't understand why it's time again.

Also Mark informed me that I have some slop in the rear end... :kick: I don't have a full diagnoses on it yet but it sure looks as if I won't be selling my truck anytime soon since I'm about to shell out some major money.

I've seen a for sale ad around here for one. I forget who the seller is. If I find it, I'll post the link in your wanted thread.

Maybe you had the vibration longer than you think. It could of caused excessive vibration in the whole drive train prematurely wearing the forks on the transfer case if your rear was hurting. How were your U-joints and center support bearing?
