Video Converting or Ripping?

What is a good free program to use to convert or rip a dvd from a video camera and change it to a form where you can save it on you computer. I am trying to put a video of my pull up. I have never done this so I need a little help.

Does your video camera have a usb or how do you plan to get it out of the camera? What I use is a USB convertor by plextor. I got it at circuit city. Has RCA ports to take any video/audio signal and then has its own software. You don't actually want a DVD format to post on the web though.
