i put a 12v in my 98.5 so a lot of things dont work the way the should and with no tach input the alt wont charge so i need a external voltage reg. i got universal reg. that fits a 92 cummins. but i cant figure out how to wire it up. and help is appricated.

i dont know about the dodge ones but i know the old ford ones apparently are the best. i just wired one up on my truck. does yours have the letters on the box such as A or S or F? if so i can tell u how to wire it up.
 
oh alright then well easiest way to do is go to an auto electric shop, tell them u want a universal ford regulator its like $20 at the most. your goin to cut the green and blue small wires there by the altenator in the wire loom. on the regulator there will be some letters...run "S" to something that come on with the key/ignition. "F" to the top small post on the back of your altenator. make a small wire to ground the bottom small post..i just ran mine right there on the alt. "A" goes to positive side on your battery. and dont worry about the other letters.
 
the crank sensor also controls your ac compressor...i'll get back to u on that. haha, im working up something for it too. i not gettin too caried away because im using my original block to go back in it so all that will work like it should. my tranny shifting on the other hand is a big mess. its still inlimp mode
 
when you wire that reg. up be sure to put in a relay to cut down some volts or you'll blow through regulators like something crazy, I put 3 external regulators on and like two one wire internal regulators before I got it right, now it works great. Just keep an eye on your voltage if it goes much past 14 then watch out cause something is fixing to blow or the alternator will burn up. Had to have that rebuilt also. Ive heard some people never have a problem so who knows.
 
yeah I haven't had any problems whatsoever...thats how I was told to do it at the electrical shop and I figure they know what there doin.
