I’m getting ready to do my VP this weekend after it crapping out last weekend and I was wondering if the Blue Chip Diesel gear puller thing is really required to do the job. I have no problem buying it at all, and I figure if I do have it, other guys in the area can use it when they need it to. I am just making sure that is a must have before I drop the $50+shipping on it. Thanks.

Its not a necessity but it does make the job a lot easier. I'm not familiar with the one that blue chip sells though. Other members here have used a steering wheel puller for this job. I did my pump about a month ago and ordered the snap-on (blue point) gear puller from my local snap-on dealer for $35. If you have any doubts on the install this should help you out: http://www.putfile.com/search/?q=vp44
