when buying a vp44 is it better to go high performance or stock?

Depends on end goals of the truck, in most cases usually just get a standard output pump.

no goals for the truck really just mild mods nothing wild im not going to pull sleds or drag race other then the honda civic that thinks hes bad ass at the stop light LOL

Boring. I think you should price out a stock pump then price out a modded pump & weigh your options. I saw a guy sell a never used HRVP on here for less than what a stock replacement costs. They're not cheap either way & if you replace it with something beefy the first time you won't have to do the 3.5 hour job again when you want a bigger one. It'll only put out as much fuel as it's told to anyways so it's not like it will be excessive.

I'm on a stock tune now & I feel a 100% difference when my truck hits lock up now than with the stock pump.

If something breaks, replace it with something bigger. Tires wear out, put bigger ones on, lift pump goes (which it will) put an air dog on, drop an injector, drop a set of bigger ones in it and if you ever have to pull the trans never ever ever go back stock hahahaha. The aftermarket prices hang right there with the OEM ones which are insane. I work for Dodge lol.

And parts warranties all suck. 12 months or 12k, whatever comes first lol. If you replace it with a modded at least you know the fuel is on tap if you need it. I just hope you've got an after market lift pump or put a helper holley on the frame for the stock carter.

I agree with i6chick. I dont believe in replacements when it comes to my truck, just upgrades. If youre havin problems with your vp dont get another stocker because the same thing will happen and itll happen faster if you plan on tuning the truck

Yes, and stock VP or not help the lift pump out with a holley or something silly or better yet buy an air dog. It's an important investment if you're putting a new IP on. No sense on having a stock transfer.

If you can keep fuel to it SO is fine. I know several trucks with SO pump makin power! The only way i would go with a hotrod is if i had an HO truck. Theres plenty trucks here runnin 12s with stock pump. Id go with SO and set of injectors for a lil more than price of just hrvp!!
