My question to everone is.... A vp44 runs about 1000.... is the hp gains worth the extra cash for say a hot rod vp44? what are the gains?

If you have a 350hp truck you will gain about a 100HP. If you have a 100HP truck your gains will be very small. Basically they have there own "chip" inside that give more HP when running on a close to stock truck, but when you have all the tuning and hard parts to make 600HP with a stock SO pump the Hotrod doesn't have the ability to outperform a stock pump.

I would buy a stock SO pump or something more crazy like a monster pump or DragonFire VP44 and skip the Hotrod pump

Im not real sure on my hp. i am running stage 5 injectors and sps silver 60 edge juice. thats about it. so would the stock pump produce about the same as others?

Yes. If you buy one from scheid or some others, just get the rebuilt one and they are supposed to have stronger parts on the insides. Atleast thats what I was told.

A stock completely remanufactured SO (standard output) is the best way to get High Horsepower with longevity.

Well my truck is the high output. can i put a so pump on it and not loose power?

okay another question, i am wanting to stack a smarty. will this still be a good idea?

A smarty will stack just fine, but will not make more power... on the dyno we lost 8HP with the stack. It also has sooo much bottom end fueling its smoky on the street and has a tendency to kill transmisions from all the low end TQ.

From my experience a smarty is good for the guy who has a stock truck and wants a little more horsepower or someone who wants a code reader and something to eliminate TQ management. I just use a BD RAD.

Well i guess i dont need or want the smarty. i was wanting to stack it for the hp. i have a 55hp southbend clutch that is holding up well now.

I have a 02HO also, I have run an SO pump and Schieds HRVP, and the SO made around the same power as the hrvp! the hrvp seems to do a little better on the bottom end, but now worth the extra money better!

well i think im gonna try the standard output pump on my high output truck. we will see what happens
