Finally got a job and wanting to build a diesel pulling truck, gonna sell my mud truck to get a bit of money put back. Wanting to build a 2.6/work stock truck, how mcuh $ am i looking at and what would i need to do to pull 2.6? Also anybody know where a diesel 1990-1998 ford/dodge is in southern indiana/West ky or southern ill/missouri?

I might have a link on a 96 model dodge 12v. To be in the top In 2.6 its gonna take some $$ Looking at buying a truck and another $15k to get it set up right. Will it be a Daily Driver/Puller

there is some questions you need to answer to be able to pick the right truck.

is daily driving important?

how much money do you have to spend?

do you have to have the best? do you want to go to scheid and win the 2.6 in 2010??? or would you be happy just to have something competitive to start out?

if i was going to do a WS truck and it had to be a daily driver i would do either a CR or a Dmax.

IMO you will want to stay away from a ford. been there, done that.

Trailer hauled truck, just competitive and somethin have fun with

then go 12v or p-pumped 24v and dont look back. save yourself the hassel and do it right from the begining. im speaking from experience. good luck.

This is a very good suggestion. It is the best bang for your buck. Ive got a common rail 2.6. Ive got a boat load of money in it and im not one of the top ones in the 2.6 class. Those ppumps are mean.

FInd a 12 valve with a DHD transfer and 5sp... Drop in a DD clutch and chage some gears.. 5.13/4.88....

$15k times 2. If you want to be competitive.$.02 At least here in Ohio, anyways

Thats just a rough figure. I bought my truck for $11,500 a year ago and after this winter ill have 26k in parts & machine work in it. Alot depends on doing it for fun or taking it to the max and winning.

im lookin for a 12v, 5 spd, gonna stack it and do 5:88 gears and maybe a diff turbo, this will just be for fun wont get real real serious till i graduate. I am 16 but this will be my 2nd pullling truck so i know what im doing as far as building it goes but this is my 1st rodeo with diesel.

stay stock turbo and pull at local street classes until you have the money to go 2.6. With just basic mods, 2.6 will be an embarassing adventure.

I agree if you dont have the money to be in 2.6 I would just get some basic mods and pull factory class in your area.
