Water/Meth Inj question

I took my 99 Cummins to the track this weekend & used my H2O inj system for the first time & it was shooting ducks the entire time the systme was on. it sounded like it was poping in the exh, but it was hard to tell. I got out of it & just cruised through the lights (1/8th mile track).

what causes this?? too much fluid? not enough Meth??

thanks
Bob

Tell us a bit about your setup so we can help. What pump, charger, Injectors and such along with what water kit you have.

Its something that I pieced together, so there is no "kit" something.

I flowed it in my Garage with 12V & it flowed about 650 cc/min with no pressure against it (just into the sink), I would guess that it goes down when you have boost pushing against the injector.

IIRC, it kicks in @ 24 Lbs & then back out again about 20. the truck runs @ 30 Lbs @ WOT, so it should be on the entire time Im laying into it.

It has the Edge Stage 1, 50 HP Injectors in it. a Blue Chip Diesel replacement VP44, no muffler but still has resonator, boost turned up to 30 Lbs via spring & turnbuckle.

thanks for the input.

Mine did that when the controller was set on low boost. At low speeds/takeoff the water/meth was coming in too quickly at too great of volume. I have since changed the settings to come in under high boost and it doesn't do it. As said above, you may need to reduce your nozzle size.

I think you're putting the fire out, you have to much W/M going in the engine. Thanks Steve B.

Its a Snow nozzle & a snow pump. I bought a pressure switch from another vendor. only one nozzle.

I dont know the nozzle size, the numbers I mentioned above are measured.

thanks gents.

yes your putting the fire out, you need to not inject so much. Or this is a thought too, is it may be a timing knock if your running too much methanol in your mixture cause it wants to light off easier than the diesel does therefore it is lighting off too early. just a thought.

I dunno what knock sounds like in a diesel it allways sounds like its knocking to me. LOL.

I suppose I need to find another nozzle that is maybe 1/2 the volume of this one & see if that does not help out.

I dont know the % of Meth/H2O, its washer fluid. I suppose I ought to run down to the hardware store & find 1 gallon jugs of Meth & Mix my own.

thanks again guys

Maliboost, what methanol nozzles you using? How many? Whats the settings on the controller? Intial and full settings for the controller. Which methanol pump you using? I have a snow kit, and in the instructions it has a section on popping. The instruction says that you should increase the initial boost pressure as the engine is detonating. Decrease the % of methanol, and/or increase the controller pressure settings. This is in the snow kit instructions.

I'm a methanol newbie, sorry for the questions. Today, is my first try. I'm running a single 325ml nozzle and have the controller at 25psi intial and full in at 40 psi. I plan on just running windshield fluid, starting off slow and in small steps. The controller will ramp-up the flow rate based on boost pressure.

turn your boost up... your not running enuff hp to have come on early boost...turn it up to about 25lbs of boost.. or more.. if you are useing 1 nozzel..or go to a smaller nozzel.. and you can leave the boost down...snow perfomance told me to put in 3 bottles of heet yellow bottle to 1 gallon of -20 blue wwf... that makes a good 50/50 mix,.. i am running a 4 1/2 bottles of heet to 1 gallon of wwf -20 ... and now i am looking for a head gaskit and head studes......lol.. i mix my wwf and heet in a new gas jug... that i got just for that reason...i mix in that .. kinda stir up then pour back in to jugs... and what left i pour in to the tank... then use the full jug to top it off.

I just finished mine set-up. I'm supprised how well it worked on the truck. I have mine to start at 25 psi and full in at 40 psi. I dropped egt's by 200 deg's and pick-up some power. My max boost prior to methanol was 35 psi, after in the low 40's. I didn't think the truck would have made that much difference or I would have done this earlier.

My current combo garrett 3782R, DDP stage 3 and PDR cam

To much water. Get a smaller nozzle and that'll help a lot. Your starting boost is fine. I used to bring mine in around 15-20psi with 2 nozzles (.375 and .625) and never had any popping. 2 .625 nozzles though cause popping and knocking. To much water.
