I recently blew a head gasket on my 99 due to excessive timing  (long story). Anyway, I took the head to the machine shop and they removed .011 from it. I ordered a .020 gasket, but am now thinking I should have went with the .010. Anybody know how much I will be lowering my compression and do you think it will be enough to cause hard starts or hazing or anything of that nature?

.010" gasket, its about 0.5 drop in compression. .020" thicker is a full point drop.

So that should put me around 16:1 roughly, maybe slightly lower. Thanks guys.

Stock SO engine is 16.3:1. So you're in the mid 15:1 CR then.

At what point would I notice a drop in low rpm torque and cold weather startability? All other factors being the same.

Do you have a stock cam?

If so why didnt you just go with a stock gasket? Only think that you have to worry about is the valves hitting a piston, and thats only if you have an aftermarket cam in it.

I'm running a stock cam for now, but this will leave room for an aftermarket cam in the future without having the pistons fly cut at least.
