got an 01 with 3.55 gears and 33 inch tall tires. Ive been pulling in 2nd low and definitly need more speed. So what do you guys run in or recommed? Ive thought about 4 hi first but was afraid i couldnt get enough rpms going before the weight hit. Also just thought about 4 low drive with od off. Mods are silver bullet with mach 8 injectors. thanks!

What you have been doing is probly best, you could try 3rd and see how it does.

I could run 3rd low last year with 400ish HP and limited rpms. 4.10 gears though. I would think if you can light it soon you will be fine running 3rd low.

If ya have a good converter... put a lockup switch in and lock the converter after it shifts into 2nd. That will give ya more tire speed.

3rd low with the TC locked. Get it spooled and you should have no prob. My truck is alot weaker and it can hold that gear and its a dually with 33's and 3.55's

So I guess what yall are recommending is put it in drive 4 low with the overdrive off so that it shifts thru 1st, 2nd, and then stays in 3rd, is that right? or is there a way to put it in 3rd so that it starts out in 3rd and stays in it all the way thru the run? is there a trans command box out there that will allow me to select 3rd?

Drive in 4low with a silver bullet might be tough. Lot of it depends on track, tires, and convertor.

Dont forget to unlock the converter when you get close to the end of your run or you will just snuff out.

Back in the day with my Pro Street 66 & MAch 7's I would usually run 4 Low with overdrive locked out and she would spinem all the way in 3rd till she burried a hole.

i run 3rd locked in 4low. i tried overdrive but didnt have quite enough X$$.

what gear

i pull in drive od off 4low when it shifts into second lock up tq make sure you unlock tq in time or parts will fly video of truck you tube bud300ft

I make sure the o/d is off and start in 1 and manually shift to 2 and 3. when i shift in to 2 i flip my tc lockup and away we go. Make sure o/d is off and turn your switch off or put in N at the end. This past weekend I hit the o/d button and turned it back on when shifting into D...Didn't work out to good, choked 'er down. But the next time it stayed off and I got third.

You guys running 3rd with an automatic and 3:55's must be pulling in sand or mud. I can see it with 4:10's, but i have seen many people try to do it with 3:55's and it just wont work. Pulls the RPM's down too far. I guess you could do it with the converter unlocked, but 2nd gear, converter locked with 3:55's is a really good gear.

With the get up and run sleds, and the higher HP, and also the broader torque band of the VP and CR trucks. I have seen guys hit 3rd gear with 3.55. They didn't have crazy tires, and they were running stock or 62mm tires.

What are you comparing to 350hp trucks or 600hp trucks?
