whats an egr blocker plate do?

Stops the EGR valve from blowing open when you want to run more than 25PSI boost.

It's a good thing.

as im sure you can tell, i know nothing about diesel performance!! but, i called a guy today at a diesel shop that sells these blocker plates and he says it does nothing for the performance.. does he know what hes talking about?

Short answer, no.

He apparently hasn't played with boost levels past 25PSI.

mcrat,
thanks for all the info!!! heres the scoop!
as im sure you read on my other post that i have the bullydog cat back exhaust and a bullydog intake..
i ordered the cat delete pipe and it will be installed next week..
you replied on my other thread to get rid of the cat, get an egr blocker and a 65 h.p. chip... im a little hesitant of getting a programmer because i dont have the self control to use it only sparingly.. lol....

so, the question i have is: does the egr blocker do any good without a programmer?? (for power that is??)

thanks again!!!

Depends on the boost you run. At about 25PSI boost, the backpressure starts to lift the EGR valve off it's seat.

If you are going to stick at 65rwhp gain, don't bother with it. At best you might see a bit of surging at WOT which won't hurt anything.

so, what you are saying is: if i do not get a programmer, do not bother with an egr blocker? correct?

like i said, id love to get a programmer, i just dont have the self control to use it wisely.. and i really dont feel like buying a new trans etc......

any other easy and safe power sources you can recommend??? :bang

thanks alot!!

It's a pretty safe bet you won't need the blocker if you aren't running anything other than a stock tune. If you are worried about putting a tune in your truck and hurting it then get an ECM that has a pre-programmed Tow tune in it. That's about as safe as you can get besides leaving it stock.
