My next purchase in the next few years (whenever I can afford it) will most likely be a performance intercooler. What is ya'll opinion on the best performing one for the buck. It will be hard for me to part with a grand $$$$ for such an item, but towing heavy is my game and I could really use one.

What the 411 on CACs? I searched and read the thread on "painted and non-painted" ones and after ciferin' all the rocket science I'm going with shiny! :D

i'll have to read that thread now...

i mean shiny looks so much cooler...but painted black dissipates heat faster

Honestly, I'd keep the stocker. It does an excellent job at keeping temps cool.

In radiation but not convection, or at least that is what I think.

Really? How come I keep reading posts like "idle EGT is 150F less with my new intercooler" and the websites say up to 200F cooler intake temp?

Hopefully xlr8r will chime in but he's done pre and post CAC testing and the factory 3rd gen one will keep temps about 20-50* bove ambient IIRC. I'll see if I can't get him to chime in on this.

3rd gens have a larger core and better flowing endtanks FWIW

and about the black thing, ive only read that its better vs. unpainted...ive heard of people painting the entire engine and engine bay black specifically to reduce temps...but i have no proof that it works

I wouldnt worry about an inner cooler. The only reason i installed one was because mine had a hole in it. I think you can spend your money better else where at the level you are at.

Ahh. Did not know that about the 3rd gen coolers.

With that being said, why don't you try and find one from a wrecked 3rd gen and make it work?

Intercooler? Eh. Maybe if you had a broken one. What about a turbo? Yours is still stock right?

Thanks JKT. I think dropping my jammer 4's for a nice set of DDP 90's or 110's or something like that will help to...if I can find someone who will trade me sticks.

I sent XLR8R a PM. I hadn't seen him post in forever. I asked him where the heck he has been.

What turbo are u running??? I would keep the jammer 4s they are a decent injector. But if you dont have the air to move the fuel your pissing in the wing. What about inake, exhaust manifold??

I have a cool twist IC...can't tell you what it did becasue I basically changed everything when it went in;) New turbo, cam, head, pump, IC, etc.

Chris

I try.

It looks nice though:D

Jory, look at HTT's. I hear it's a nice piece, and TIMINVA hasn't blown his up with 100+ psi pressures;)

Chris

I have an AFE stage II intake with ProGaurd 7 but stock exhaust manifold. (and an AFE Bladerunner as soon as father's day gets here, shhhhhh)

EGT's are normally around 950 at 70 mph on setting 2 and max out at 1275F on setting 2 at 25 psi buried on an uphill with 10K on a trailer.

I don't want to burn any more fuel, I just want to make what I have an efficient as possible. So, if colder, denser will gain me mpg, great!

My truck smokes a hell of a lot more than it used to all of a sudden to. I just cleaned my air filter and changed oil so I'm lost as to why. Tyler, didn't your truck do this a while back?

And why doesn't the damn Attitude record max EGTs? I have no idea what they were on setting 5 on the dyno.

Nevermind...just looked at HTT's site. They don't have 2ng Gen coolers...I thought I heard they did:(

Chris

i have the turbonetics spearco one. I noticed a good drop in egts spool up. I wouldnt go any other way than a spearco if were to do it again.
