Where to start on an 06 Dmax?

I have no clue where to begin on upgrades for a duramax? Just looking at basic things exhaust, intake, small chip or box. Looking for mileage more than power.

LBZ or LLY? I would do exhaust, block EGR and a milage tune. Should run great and get ~20MPG.
 
predator is pretty good for mpg egr block you are going to need either a finger stick or efi live to turn off the SEL. PPE makes a basic tuner as well.
intake is good for 600rwhp

stock is 3.5. 4" is more then enough power wise up to 700-800hp unless you want the exhaust note of a 5"

another is efi live. can get it from socal diesel. his tow tune is pretty good and know for good mpg.
 
i would go with a ppe hot+ 2 and run a 90 tune in it but you have the big tunning when you want to upgrade
 
I would start with EFI live right away, that way when you wanna go big you don't have to sell the other junk and buy it then.

WanaDmax hit the nail on the head. I wouldnt run anything too big on it, just to keep the warranty in case there is any issues with it.
 
Depending on what you want to end up with for power is where you need to look for tunning. If you are looking for simple mpg and never intending on drag racing or sledpulling I would go with eihter one of the tuners that where listed above. If you plan on keeping the truck long periods of time the EGR blocker is a very good idea. Both tuners listed above (PPE, Diablo) will now over ride the EGR light if you decide to block off the EGR. PPE in the hot settings seem to be getting the best fuel economy if you can manage to stay off the pedal. Diablo seems to get the best MPG in the 65 h.p. setting.
EFI works extremly well but for your average joe its more then you need and can be overwellming if you are trying to tune it yourself. If you decide to go with efi live there are manny vendors on here that can get you great mileage tunes (trippin, kennedy, etc)

Intake and exhaust will all help bennifit any one of these tuners and help support your fuel economy that you are looking for

Some were around 80 rwhp you need to look into tranny upgrades.
Some were just over 500 rwhp you need to look into engine internals.

I'm just under 500 rwhp and staying there!
 
I would say don't start, cause the problem is usually where do you stop!!:evil

muffler delete
cat delete
turbo silencer delete
edge j/a
unlock hot mode on edge j/a
ppe shim mod(2 shims)
pcv reroute/fingers stick/egr blocker
ppe intake mod
Blew transmission, upgrade to M/A Stage IV
drill out fuel rails
ppe shim mod bumped up to 3 shims(might as well be race valve)
ditch edge j/a, install PPE Hot +2 on level 5
MBRP 5" turbo back
Now I need a lift pump so I can crank PPE to +425 horse tune
Truck now walks all over stockish mustangs/camaros all day long! Once you start modding an LBZ, you will never stop. Its a disease that Im proud to have!

Are there any freebies like on a 12v cummins? silencer ring removal? egr block? Whats the cheapest things to do? Thanks for all the help

intake box is good for 500-550rwhp
used to have the orginal.... cost to make 40 bucks abs 4" pipe form hoem depoet

If you decide you want power more than mileage, EFI can take you there too. Then you'll need a trans and lift pump as well. Save your money on all the other gimmicks and bull sh!t. You can get 500 HP with EFI, a lift pump, exhaust and a trans to hold it on any model Dmax.

you can get 500hp on ppe with a stock charger
